Morphological variations in the root canal system of mandibular premolars in the population of Uttarakhand

چکیده
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the variations in root canal morphology of the Mandibular premolars in the population of Uttarakhand using periapical radiographs. Objective: For the success of the endodontic treatment, shaping and sealing of the root canals in the three dimension is mandatory, for which the thorough understanding of the root canal system and its variation is important. Methods: A total of 110 mandibular premolars were examined using the periapical radiographs, number of roots and root canals were evaluated. Results: Among the teeth examined 14.5% (n=16) had more than one root and 21.4% (n=24) had two and more canals, the occurance of three roots and three canals was rare. Conclusion: Majority of the mandibular premolars have one root with one canal, but a large fraction of the population presents with the two canals. Clinical significance: Due to the high incidence of the multiple canals in these teeth, extra attention has to be paid for the successful outcome of the endodontic treatment.

Introduction: To achieve a successful endodontic treatment, the clinician has to identify the different canal configurations.mandibular premolars have the wide variety of root canal morphology and they are known as the most difficult teeth to treat in endodontics.CBCT provides a non-invasive 3D confirmatory diagnosis as a complement to conventional radiography. The aim of this study was to...
متن کاملCone Beam Computed Tomography Study of Root and Canal Morphology of Mandibular Premolars in Indore Population
Knowledge of the variations in root and root canal morphology is mandatory for the success of endodontic treatment. Neglecting to probe, prepare and fill all the canals can lead to failure of endodontic treatment 1 . As a group the mandibular premolars are among the most difficult teeth to treat endodontically, because they have high incidence of multiple roots or canals 2 . Moreover their root...

BACKGROUND Traditional radiography is limited in its ability to give reliable information on the number and morphology of root canals. The application of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) provides a non-invasive three-dimensional confirmatory diagnosis as a complement to conventional radiography. The aim of this study was to evaluate the root and canal morphology of mandibular premolars in a...
